Ma-Ingan Educators - A Center for Training American Indians in Construction

Building the Future - Working with Tribes to build an American Indian construction workforce that is employable and certified, with nationally recognized education and training credentials through the National Center for Construction Education and Research.

Our Vision

* Increase employment opportunities and career options for our tribal youth

* Help tribes, Indian students, parents, teachers, school administrators, and career counselors obtain a realistic view of the career paths and job

   opportunities in the construction profession

* Create educational partnerships with tribal schools that have secondary and post-secondary vocational programs

* Provide school counselors and tribal employment offices with informational resources for guiding youth to construction and pipeline careers

* Introduce an effective, standardized, accredited, and internationally recognized construction curriculum

* Assist schools with implementation of credentialing programs that will articulate into industry jobs

* Provide a trained and credentialed Indian workforce to the construction industry

Why is this Needed?

1.  Concern for the growing number of unemployed and unskilled tribal youth.

2.  Eight of the ten fastest growing occupations through 2014 require post-secondary training

3.  There are 275,000 trained jobs in construction that go unfilled each year

4.  The average craftsperson in construction is now 47 years old

5.  Between 2002-2012 it is projected there will be:
*  154,000 new electrician jobs
*  122,000 new carpentry jobs
*  47,000 construction management jobs

6.  By 2031, jobs will outnumber skilled workers by 35 million jobs

7. Indian youth who are not college bound need to be shown the achievable career opportunities in construction and an avenue to obtain skills valued by hiring managers in the industry

Our Strategy

* Support tribes building construction education programs

*  Increase awareness of the jobs and career opportunities in construction-related fields at Indian education conferences

* Disseminate construction training and career information to tribal secondary and post-secondary schools

* Advocate for the use of NCCER Contren Learning Series curriculum

* Ensure participating tribes are validated with construction companies for implementing a "best practice" curriculum

* Create a seamless construction career path, from secondary education through workforce entry

* Contribute to the continuous improvement of construction education and to industry's awareness of the qualified workforce at the tribal level
